Ball Python’s message is “Shed Your Skin.” Often times when we think of the message of a snake we think about shedding skin. And this, one of my all-time favorite snakes, slithers up to talk about exactly that. The emphasis Here is on letting go and in doing so allowing yourself to transform. When you do this it makes room for so many other beautiful things in your life. We cast off the old, that which may be chafing us, that which we have out grown, and find ourselves more comfortable and free.

Ball pythons get their name because when they are threatened they will curl up into a ball to protect themselves. I love the message there too because it’s a great reminder to do what we need to do in order to give ourselves space and to hold ourselves sacred. In a world where so many things assault us, it is a beautiful reminder to take the time we need to do so in a way that shuts out the outside world for time if necessary. This snake also reminds us to hold ourselves to our highest self. Also known as “royal” pythons it is believed that they were worn by rulers as symbols of royalty. So docile that they could indeed be trusted companions, this snake also teaches us that looks can be deceiving. Urging us to dig deeper when first encountering others and also to consider the many faces we can present to the world.
